Cola_pachycarpa
Cola pachycarpa is a small tree of the family Sterculiaceae, whose vernacular names are "cola of the monkeys" or "bush cola". Its range extends from Nigeria to Gabon. The species is widespread in Cameroon. The tree reaches 15 m in height and 25 cm in diameter, and has a bent shaft. Its bark is gray-green to brown in color. The slice is whitish and has yellow-brown lines.
The tree produces from April to June inflorescences of 3 to 12 hermaphrodite flowers of pink color, without petal. The fruits come in the form of red capsules with a bumpy appearance and contain a liquid. Seeds, 1 to 8 per follicle, are flattened and surrounded by a firm, white, sweet-tasting aril.
Arille, sweet, is edible.
