Mangoustan
The mangosteen or mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) is a tree species of the genus Garcinia, family Clusiaceae.
There are mangosteen varieties that provide edible fruit, the mangosteens. They are from Southeast Asia, Malaysia, Java, Borneo, Sri Lanka, Thailand, countries in which mangosteens are found on the markets. It is also grown in Central Africa, South America, Colombia or northeastern Brazil in particular.
The mangosteen or mongoose is the fruit of the mangosteen or mangosteen. This purplish-colored fruit, rounded in shape and the size of a golf ball with thick and very bitter skin, is the pericarp. It contains a white flesh divided into 5 or 6 quarters. The fine taste is a mixture of acidity and sweetness. Mangoustans are popular fruits in Asia and Central Africa for their healing properties.
Mangosteen is one of the richest fruits in natural antioxidants, including at least 40 xanthones. It is in the pericarp of the fruit that these are concentrated.
